About the Fund
The SETAC North America Endowment Fund was established in 2005 to
develop and grow invested funds in perpetuity in order to annually
generate investment proceeds for use in supporting technical, scientific
and educational activities consistent with the society’s mission.
Contributions to the fund are received through a combination of current and
planned (future) gifts by SETAC members, their home organizations and
other philanthropic groups.
In 2013, the Endowment Fund achieved
a record-breaking fundraising year, exceeding an important invested
principal threshold of $130,000 and will continue to grow through
generous membership contributions. With assistance from the SETAC North
America Board of Directors, approximately $10,000 of the fund were
distributed to support students at the SETAC North America annual
meeting, a partial internship at SETAC, an invited speaker program and
recordings of selected sessions of the annual meeting. These are
critical accomplishments for the fund and the Board of Trustees.
Thanks to all of the contributing members for their support!
than one third of SETAC North America members have contributed on one
or more occasions since 2005! We must continue to grow the fund, and we
urge your continuing financial support to ensure an ongoing commitment
to our society’s mission
How the Fund Operates
The Endowment Fund Board of Trustees operates under the purview of the SETAC North America Development Committee, and the annually audited fund is managed by the SETAC North America Secretary–Treasurer.
SETAC North America, in consultation with the Endowment Fund Board of
Trustees and the Society Board of Directors will have the authority to
accept current and planned (future) gifts, grants and contributions to
enhance the invested fund principal.
Seven substantial planned
gifts, matching gifts and two C. Herb Ward Challenge Grants have already
been committed to the fund, and two authors have committed a portion of
proceeds from future book sales. In addition, a number of recognition
and memorial gifts and Legacy Society contributions of $1,000 or more
have been received since 2006. With continuing financial support, the
Endowment Fund principal will continuously grow, generating annual
support for worthy projects including student functions, special
symposia, technical meetings, briefings and annual meeting activities
consistent with the society's mission. The amount of distributed annual
support depends upon the size of the fund. So please help us continue the fund’s success by making a contribution.
