Executive Directors
Bart Bosveld
Bart Bosveld received his master’s in biology at Groningen University in The Netherlands and his Ph.D. at Utrecht University for his studies on the effects of dioxins and PCB’s in fish-eating birds. Bosveld has worked in the field of environmental toxicology since 1990. He has held various positions at Utrecht University, the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), the Dutch Institute for Forest and Nature Research (IBN), Wageningen University and Research Centre, and finally as head of the ecotoxicology team at Alterra. In 2003, Bosveld was appointed SETAC Europe Executive Director. Between 2008 and 2013, he stepped away from SETAC to work at the Board for the Authorisation of Plant Protection Products and Biocides (Ctgb) in The Netherlands. In 2013, he returned as SETAC Europe Executive Director and took on the additional role as SETAC Global Executive Director in 2020.
Bosveld is married and together they have two grown-up twin daughters. In his spare time, he loves to go sailing, mountain biking, hiking, walking the dog and cooking (actually, more the eating). He also does handcrafting, plays music and reads.

Tamar Schlekat
Tamar Schlekat is the SETAC Global Science Director, where she supports the Society promote environmental science and management and advance science-informed decisions making. She has been with SETAC since 2016. When she came to SETAC, Schlekat brought more than 18 years of technical experience as an environmental consultant focused on ecological and human health risk assessment and sustainability. She was active in the SETAC community from her student days.
Schlekat has a Master of Science in Public Health in Environmental Quality and Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. She also has certificates in Non-Profit Management and Sustainability Leadership. She enjoys reading, hiking, knitting and gardening.
Languages: Bilingual English and Arabic and a little French.

Jill Murray
Jill Murray is the Executive Director of SETAC Europe, where she works closely with the European Board, volunteers and staff to strengthen member engagement, enhance organizational impact and support the long-term sustainability of the Society.
Jill brings extensive international leadership experience, including her previous role as Global Chief Marketing Officer at Arcadis, where she led a global team of more than 200 professionals. She has deep expertise in strategy, stakeholder engagement, organizational development and building high-performing, purpose-driven teams. Jill has also served on the board of a non-profit organization in the Netherlands, contributing to her experience in governance and mission-driven leadership.
She is particularly passionate about fostering collaboration across SETAC’s tripartite community of academia, business and government, and strengthening the Society’s external impact in addressing global environmental challenges.
Jill holds a Master of Science in Social Business and Entrepreneurship from the London School of Economics, graduating with distinction in 2025. Her studies focused on non-profit leadership, impact measurement, philanthropy and funding models for social enterprises. She also holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics) from Macquarie University.
Originally from Sydney, Australia, Jill is now based in the Netherlands. Outside of work, she enjoys travelling, listening to music and walking with her dog.

Zuzanna Neziri
Zuzanna Neziri was appointed Executive Director of SETAC Asia-Pacific in 2025. She brings over a decade of leadership experience spanning HR, operations and strategic partnerships across the Asia-Pacific and Europe. Prior to joining SETAC, Neziri led talent acquisition and organisational growth initiatives for global companies and start-ups, building diverse teams and fostering inclusive cultures.
She is passionate about creating connected, collaborative communities and supporting SETAC’s mission to protect environmental and human health in the region. Neziri is based between Singapore and Australia and is focused on strengthening regional engagement, operational excellence and membership growth.
Outside of work, she enjoys exploring new countries – having travelled to all seven continents – as well as scuba diving, hiking, wildlife photography and finding the best local food spots wherever she goes.

SETAC Staff
Sabine Barrett
Sabine Barrett joined SETAC in 2010. She holds a master’s degree in journalism and communication sciences from the University of Klagenfurt in Austria. She started her professional career in Austria as well, first laying out and designing newspaper content, later in an ad agency. She met Paul, her husband, while sailing on Pensacola Bay, and after a two-years of international courtship, she moved to Pensacola in 2003. After more than 10 years in the agency world, where she worked on public relations, content creation and web design, she was excited to combine her passion (a proud treehugger) and professional talents to promote Environmental Quality Through Science®.

Rebecca Bundschuh
Rebecca Bundschuh started working for SETAC in January 2016. Prior to accepting her role with SETAC, Rebecca joined the society as a meeting participant, student committee member and helped as a volunteer at the Young Environmental Scientist (YES) and regional branch meetings. She holds a diploma in Environmental Sciences with a major in Ecotoxicology. Outside the office she enjoys travel, spending time outdoors and especially under water with scuba diving.

Helen Callow
Helen Callow has been working with SETAC since 2017 on the SETAC journals team. At Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (ET&C), Callow manages manuscripts from submission to publication, as well as various tasks designed to keep the journal running smoothly.
When not at work, she will be taking long walks in the woods, paddling a river, travelling or tending to the garden. Trained in Archival and Library Science, Callow volunteers for the local Historical Society as their resident archivist.

Oana Ciurea
Oana joined SETAC in September 2024, after moving from Romania, where she graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Letters and Arts and a master’s degree in Business Management and Marketing. After working in marketing and communications for the previous ten years of her career, she embarked on a new professional journey, joining SETAC Europe as an Office Manager. Bringing to the table strong organizational skills and digital curiosity, she complements the team and is eager to fulfil her core responsibilities, which include managing memberships, overseeing meeting registrations, and handling office administration.
When her out-of-office is activated, she is most likely biking, hiking, binging, visiting a new place, playing board games, or listening to psychology and neuroscience podcasts.

Kelly Derom
Kelly Derom joined SETAC in January 2020 as a Communications Specialist, bringing a dynamic blend of creativity to the team. She obtained a bachelor's degree in Marketing-Communication at the University College of Leuven, Belgium. To boost her creative side, she decided to attend an extra year of Graphic Design. Kelly's focus at SETAC is mainly on communication, web and design initiatives for various programs and events, including the SETAC Europe annual meetings.
In her spare time, this pasta lover enjoys dining or spending quality time with friends, taking outdoor walks, swimming and mastering the art of keeping plants alive.

Roel Evens
Roel obtained his master’s degrees in Environmental Sanitation (2003) and Environmental and Sustainability Management (2004) at the University of Leuven in Belgium. He worked with a consulting firm to support industries (especially SMEs) to prepare environmental dossiers and the implementation of gas and water purification systems. The call for science was too strong however, and after two years, he moved to Ghent University to continue with research. In 2011 he obtained his PhD in ecotoxicology for studying the effects of dietary metals in freshwater ecosystems. In the interim he brought his technical experience to a non-profit organization to support communities in setting up health care programs in mining areas. Roel joined SETAC in November 2011 and is the Scientific Project Manager of SETAC Europe. In this role he is primarily responsible for the scientific coordination of the annual meeting as well as symposia, workshops and European dissemination programs. In addition, he is the secretary of several Interest Groups and the SETAC Europe Science Committee. In his leisure time he enjoys road cycling, gardening, percussion and double bass!

Donna Frankel
Donna Frankel officially joined SETAC in 2021, after working as a contractor in the Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management (IEAM) editorial office. She manages the manuscript submissions pipeline and content management system for IEAM, working closely with IEAM editors and authors throughout the article production process. Prior to joining IEAM, Frankel was managing editor for American Laboratory magazine, where she gained experience handling daily journal operations and developed her passion for copyediting and proofreading.

Filip Gunst
Filip Gunst graduated from Heilig Hartinstituut Heverlee, Belgium, with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance. He is a senior accounting professional with more than 20 years of experience in all areas of the accounting cycle, working across different industries, including music, industrial property development, biotechnology and medical devices. Filip has worked for SETAC since 2013 as an independent consultant and, as of 2023, became officially a SETAC staff member. He piloted SETAC from a tax-exempt nonprofit to a mixed tax organization and is looking forward to the next VAT transition with local foreign VAT registration as of 2024.

Xiluva Hill
Xiluva Hill joined SETAC in October 2025 as a Project Manager focused on collaborations and student programs. She holds a master’s degree in Social Policy and Public Health, as well as a double major bachelor’s degree in Psychology and International Relations. Her passions include understanding human behaviour and finding ways to build healthy and sustainable communities.
In her spare time, she enjoys good conversations, leisurely walks (preferably in nature), fun card and board games, and the joy of cooking and sharing delicious food.

Dusty Kennedy
Dusty Kennedy officially joined the SETAC team in June 2016. Since then, he has assisted in the development of countless communications and design initiatives, from crafting the visual identity of North America annual meetings to building SETAC Globe issues, annual reports and so much more. As a University of West Florida graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, he brings a plethora of creative skills to SETAC.
Outside of SETAC, Dusty enjoys running, weight-lifting and following the Dallas Cowboys.

Barbara Koelman
Barbara Koelman joined the society in June 2005. While her tasks were mainly accounting and office management in the beginning, her role has evolved, and she now plans the annual meeting and other smaller meetings. Her main responsibilities are taking care of the bid process for future events, organizing logistics, catering and the thousand other tiny tasks required for the annual meeting, and she is the contact person for exhibitors, sponsors and partners. Before SETAC, Barbara gained experience in various administrative jobs in different European countries.
She is passionate about learning and speaking languages. Additionally, she likes cooking, reading, traveling, tennis, sewing, knitting, spending time with friends and family, and pizza.

Marcy LeBlanc
Marcy LeBlanc began working in collaboration with SETAC in 2021 and was hired on as staff in January 2024. With a bachelor's degree from Endicott College, and over a decade of experience in conference data guidance, she is pleased to marry her passions for environmental causes and project management.
Pastimes include hiking, trial and error in the world of beekeeping, relishing in the excitement of exploration, and chortling with kindred spirits.

Nikki Mayo
Nikki Mayo holds a bachelor’s degree in Health, Leisure, and Exercise Science/Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Facilities Management from the University of West Florida. Organizing SETAC North America annual meetings has been her main focus since joining SETAC in 2006, but she has also planned numerous board meetings, workshops and focused topic meetings throughout the world. Nikki is a member of the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), which afforded her the opportunity to travel to Dubai to participate in a panel discussion for international meeting planners.
Outside of the office, Nikki enjoys traveling, naps, reading and spending time with her neurotic dog, Travis.

Terresa Murdoch
Tee Murdoch started at SETAC in 2001, and in her tenure here has worn many hats. While her primary remit is accounts receivable, her invaluable experience ranges across membership management, meeting registration, sales and so much more. Tee earned her degree in accounting from the University of Phoenix Georgia.
When she is not running the office behind-the-scenes, she enjoys spoiling her nine grandchildren and first great grandchild.

Erin Nelson
Erin has been the managing editor for the SETAC journal Environmental Toxicology & Chemistry (ET&C) since 2011 where she oversees the daily operations of the journal from submission to online publication. With over 20 years of experience in publishing, she worked at Sage Publications as a production editor and managing editor prior to joining ET&C. Recently, Erin moved back to Minnesota with her husband, daughter, and dog. She is looking forward to exploring new and familiar places and is doing her best to embrace long winters again.
