SETAC Statement on Current Events

In light of the horrifying humanitarian situation in Israel and Palestine and related acts of bigotry and hate around the globe, SETAC reaffirms our support for the rights and freedoms for all people, everywhere, as stated in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. We deeply grieve the senseless loss of life and categorically deplore the disregard to human rights and dignity. We condemn the useless destruction of our built and natural environment, the pointless use of natural resources, the loss of ecosystem quality and the inevitable degradation of environmental quality. Our thoughts are with colleagues in the region who are deeply impacted by the situation and mindful of the stress and anxiety this is causing others around the world. We remind ourselves and our members to be sensitive to one another, and to allow each other grace and the space to process at this difficult time. SETAC values are unequivocally against hatred on the basis of religion, race, ethnicity, national origin and other categories. SETAC continues to be an inclusive welcoming space and we remain committed to being a forum for open inclusive collaboration for environmental scientists around the world.
