SETAC Global Executive Director: Retirement Beckons and Opportunity Calls

Nile Kemble, SETAC President

The SETAC Global Executive Director (GED), Bart Bosveld, has announced that he plans to retire by the end of the year and will continue his role through 2026. While this marks the beginning of a transition, the SETAC community is fortunate that he will not be saying goodbye just yet. Bart first joined the SETAC staff as SETAC Europe Executive Director from 2003 to 2008, returning in 2013 to serve again in that role through 2025. From 2020, he also served as GED while continuing part time as SETAC Europe Executive Director, supporting both roles for a period of time. Over the years, he has played a key role in shaping SETAC’s global community.

In preparation, the SETAC Board of Directors has commenced searching for a new GED, who can provide visionary leadership across the SETAC Global organization while fostering strong alignment, collaboration and coherence with SETAC’s Geographic Units. Further, the board is in search of a GED who will be responsible for advancing SETAC’s global mission, strategic priorities, operational excellence and scientific impact.

To support the search, the board has established a Search Committee under the leadership of SETAC Immediate-Past President Amanda Reichelt-Brushett. The committee has developed the job announcement and recruitment plan. After the application period ends on 12 June, the committee will screen applications, conduct preliminary interviews, evaluate candidates, review references, perform background checks, facilitate board interviews with finalists and then make a recommendation to the board. Once the GED is appointed, the Search Committee will continue its work and facilitate onboarding.

Interested candidates are invited to submit an application, including CV and cover letter, to [email protected] by 12 June 2026.

Members with questions about the process or other governance matters are encouraged to contact the SETAC Board of Directors.
