Seeking Collaborators to Advance Biopesticide Environmental Testing and Assessment
Biopesticides, which are innovative materials that utilize bacteria or biochemicals to control crop pests, are gaining attention for their potential to provide sustainable alternatives to conventional pesticides in agriculture. Several SETAC members are looking to connect with individuals interested in this area to collaborate with.
Environmental safety testing and assessment of biopesticides was recently discussed at a session held at the SETAC North America Annual Meeting in 2024. The session held last year served as a follow-up to previous discussions held in 2018, with a focus on updates from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development regarding ongoing efforts to enhance testing and assessment protocols for these unique products, highlighting the effort to advance scientific evaluation in ensuring environmental safety. Building on the momentum from these discussions, several SETAC members are considering the formation of a group aimed at fostering collaboration, sharing best practices and advancing scientific approaches in this rapidly evolving field. They are seeking to identify professionals to join them in this endeavor to strengthen the community and promote the responsible use of biological solutions in agriculture.
