Free E-Book: Five Key Insights in Using Science to Solve Problems in Policymaking
SETAC is pleased to share that Peter Calow of the University of Minnesota has published a new open-access e-book, “Science in Public Policy for the Public.” Calow, a professor in the Humphrey School’s Science, Technology, and Environment Area, brings decades of experience – including government advisory roles in the UK, Denmark and the European Commission – to this accessible and timely resource.
In the book, Calow explores how science can be more effectively used to address real-world policy challenges. He examines common barriers such as concerns about relevance, bias and communication, and offers clear, practical insights for improving the connection between scientific knowledge and public decision-making.
Calow emphasizes that “science is paramount in making policy that works,” but that “misunderstandings about how and what it delivers at all levels can stand in the way of effective deployment.” His new e-book provides readers with an engaging and thoughtful guide to understanding how science can better serve society’s most pressing needs.
This free resource is now available to the public and is an excellent read for anyone interested in the role of science in shaping effective public policy.
