SETAC Latin America successfully concluded its 16th Biennial Meeting, held from 26–29 of August at the Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina in Lima, Perú. Centered on the theme “Embracing holistic, dynamic and science-driven environmental regulations,” the conference gathered leading experts and emerging scientists to address pressing environmental challenges in Latin America and beyond.

This important scientific event brought together 463 participants from 24 countries, including academic researchers, industry professionals and government representatives. The meeting featured a large number of attendees contributing to conference sessions, posters and premeeting courses. In addition, booths from local and international sponsors showcased the latest advances in tools and technologies. A notable highlight was the participation of 196 students, reflecting the meeting’s strong commitment to supporting early career scientists and nurturing the next generation of environmental leaders. Dedicated activities – such as the mentor lunch, a special debate and a student assembly – provided valuable opportunities for networking, dialogue and professional growth.

Throughout the program of scientific sessions, specialized courses and engaging discussions, the conference theme was consistently reflected. Presentations highlighted the integration of robust scientific knowledge into policy-making, while participants shared innovative solutions and groundbreaking research that aim to bridge the gap between science and environmental regulation. In addition to the scientific sessions and formal activities, the conference included a series of ad hoc meetings that enriched the agenda, including a meeting on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in Latin American science and society, a meeting to establish new SETAC Latin America chapters, a collaborative science meeting of the Scientific Committee, and the biannual assembly of active members of SETAC Latin America, which fostered exchange, integration and active participation of the SETAC community.

The scientific content presented during the meeting will be captured in the official abstract book, currently in preparation and scheduled for release to all participants by 3 October. This resource will provide a comprehensive record of the diverse research contributions and insights shared during the conference.

SETAC Latin America extends its sincere gratitude to the organizing committee, student volunteers, mentors, chairs, course trainers, lecturers and to every participant whose active involvement and dedication contributed to the outstanding success of this meeting. Congratulations also to the winners of the best oral and poster presentations! Together, we have taken significant steps toward advancing environmental science and strengthening collaborative networks in the region. We look forward to continuing this momentum at future SETAC events as we collectively promote innovative research and meaningful scientific dialogue in the field of environmental toxicology and chemistry.

We look forward to seeing you — and even more colleagues — at the SETAC Latin America 17th Biennial Meeting in 2027 in Medellín, Colombia!
