Applications Open for One Health Mentoring and Skills Development Program

Applications for the 2026–2027 cohort of the Mentoring and Skills Development Training Program in One Health – a collaboration among the University of California, Davis; SETAC; Iowa State University; and Meharry Medical College – are now open.

Funded through a National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant, the yearlong program prepares early career scientists and undergraduate STEM students to conduct transdisciplinary research at the intersection of toxicology and One Health. Organizers aim to build a new generation of scientists equipped to address environmental health challenges that span human, animal and ecosystem systems.

Seeking Mentors and Mentees

The program targets early career scientists who earned a Ph.D. or terminal medical degree within the past 10 years, as well as undergraduate students pursuing STEM degrees. Participants receive structured mentoring, professional development training and exposure to research that bridges environmental toxicology and broader One Health frameworks.

SETAC members with expertise in toxicology or One Health are also encouraged to engage with the program as mentors, contributing to a collaborative community of scholars dedicated to advancing integrative environmental science.

The initiative reflects growing recognition that environmental toxicology plays a central role in understanding emerging public health risks, biodiversity loss and climate-related exposures. By fostering collaboration across disciplines, the program seeks to strengthen the scientific workforce working at this nexus.

Applications are due 30 March. For application details and program information, visit the UC Davis MSDT–One Health program website or contact [email protected].
