A Fond Farewell and a Warm Welcome

From time to time, we have to say goodbye to people in our professional life. It is great when those goodbyes are for a good reason and even better when they also come accompanied by a welcome to someone new.
Donna Frankel’s last day at SETAC was 31 August as she began her well-deserved transition into retirement. For more than six years, Donna worked tirelessly on SETAC’s journal Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management (IEAM). Donna brought dedication and care to everything she did and became a trusted and valued partner to IEAM’s authors and editors. She began as part-time editor and eventually she took on all aspects of managing the journal, making a lasting contribution to its success. Those who had the pleasure of working with Donna especially appreciated her hard work, commitment and daily support to editors as they navigated their ever-present to-do lists.
From the entire SETAC family, we wish Donna a very happy, healthy and fulfilling retirement. We hope this next chapter brings her plenty of time to relax, enjoy life and do all the things that retirement finally gives her time to do!
On the heels of Donna’s departure, we were pleased to welcome the newest member of the SETAC Publications Team, Jillian Schweitzer, who joins us as IEAM’s newest Associate Editor!
Jillian holds a BA in English and has spent her career in publishing, with extensive experience editing and proofreading scientific journals. She stays closely connected to the publishing community through her membership in the International Society of Managing and Technical Editors. Jillian also brings extensive experience with ScholarOne, the platform IEAM uses for manuscript submission and review. Her skills and knowledge will help ensure a smooth transition into her new role.
Jillian has been working with several journals for a commercial publisher and is particularly excited about the opportunity to work with a scientific society. She is looking forward to being part of the SETAC community. Outside of work, Jillian enjoys writing for a local newspaper in Maryland, near Washington, DC, and manages the paper’s social media account. She is also a strong advocate for diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice.
Jillian will be a wonderful fit—not only for the Publications Team but for the broader SETAC community. Her professional experience was impressive, and the glowing references we received from her colleagues only reinforced our enthusiasm about welcoming her to the team. We are very grateful that Jillian was able to step into the role so quickly, and we are delighted to have her with us. Please join us in giving Jillian a warm SETAC welcome!
