Call for Applications – Committee for External Collaborations
SETAC is soliciting applications from members to serve as volunteer expert on the Committee for External Collaborations (CEC). Apply by 13 March to help advance the use of best available science in global environmental policy and regulation.
Purpose
SETAC is dedicated to advancing environmental science and science-informed decision-making through collaboration, communication, education and leadership. In alignment with this mission, SETAC established the Committee for External Collaborations (CEC) to promote the transfer of science to regulation through structured partnerships with international organizations involved in environmental policy development and implementation.
Committee Charge
- The CEC is responsible for identifying and pursuing opportunities for collaboration with international organizations to facilitate the integration and uptake of best available scientific evidence in the development, implementation and evaluation of environmental policies and regulations.
- Proposing topics for SETAC Technical Issue Papers and Science Briefs consistent with SETAC’s principles of multidisciplinary approaches, multi-sector engagement, and science-based objectivity.
- Developing collaborative work programs such as workshops, symposia, and joint scientific initiatives.
Membership and Term
- The CEC shall consist of 10–15 members, selected from SETAC full membership through an open application process.
- Members are appointed by the SETAC Board of Directors.
- Initial terms are staggered at 1, 2 or 3 years to ensure continuity.
- Subsequent terms are 3 years, with the possibility of reappointment based on performance and board approval.
- The committee seeks balanced representation across:
- Sector (academia, industry, government, NGO)
- Area of expertise
- Geographic region
Member Responsibilities
Selected members are expected to:
- Remain informed of relevant programs and initiatives led by international organizations that align with SETAC’s mission.
- Participate in committee meetings, review materials, and contribute to project proposals and reports.
- Engage with selected organizations to advance collaborative initiatives and actively participate in collaborative work programs.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be current SETAC members in good standing.
- Demonstrate experience and interest in environmental science, policy or regulatory engagement.
- Have the ability to commit time (ranging from 4-8 hours per month) to committee meetings, project work and collaboration activities.
Selection Process
The SETAC Board of Directors will review applications and appoint committee members in accordance with the CEC SOP. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by 27 March.
