“Mitigating the Risks of Plant Protection Products in the Environment: MAgPIE” are the proceedings from a 2-part workshop designed to inventory the risk mitigation measures implemented in European countries and build the foundation for a toolbox comprising reliable options available to risk managers. Risk mitigation measures are the tools that reduce the transfer of a product, such as pesticide, into a particular environmental compartment, and thus mitigate both exposure and risk to organisms and ecosystems. The identification of practical and effective risk mitigation measures tied to product use can be a critical stage in risk assessment and risk management. As such, they serve as an influencing factor when the regulators are determining whether a pesticide product should go to market. Dedicated technical recommendation sheets describing each measure in the toolbox, including its benefits and implementation practicalities at the agricultural level, were prepared and are included in these proceedings. The book also reflects technical progress and innovation in the area of pesticide application, agricultural practice, and environmental protection.
