About Patricia
Bachelor in Sciences: Hydrobiology (UAM-I, 1988), Master in Experimental Biology (UAM-I, 1992), and Ph. D. in Zoology (Miami University of Ohio, 1997). Dr. Ramirez has coordinated and collaborated in research and consulting projects dealing with Ecotoxicology, Environmental Risk Assessment, and Contaminants Monitoring. She started her professional career at UAM Iztapalapa as a Research Assistant in 1988, since then she has worked to her current position as Principal Professor. Since 2005 she works on projects funded by the Mexican Environmental Ministry (SEMARNAT) related to Hydrocarbons and Persistent Organic Contaminants Monitoring, as well as the development of an ecotoxicological baseline for the Gulf of Mexico Ecosystems. She´s the author of more than 100 research products (papers, book chapters, graduate and postgraduate students) in which credit is given to UAM. She was Associated Editor of the Journal Hidrobiológica for ten years. SETAC member since 1993, she has been part of the Board of Directors of SNA and of the SWC. Founder President of the SETAC -Mexico Chapter (AMEQA), she´s been on the board of directors since then helping organize national and international meetings and editing special journal numbers of scientific relevance for Mexico. Member of the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) Committee on Coral Reef Enforcement & Investigation since 2007, she´s helped build capacity in over 20 countries on marine forensic evidence handling. With over 30 years of teaching experience, she imparts undergraduate and postgraduate courses in UAM where she has graduated 4 Ph. D., 14 M. Sc., and 45 B. Sc. students. She also worked as the Energy and Environment Postgraduate Program Coordinator for over four years.
