Horacio Heinzen mini CV Horacio Heinzen is a Doctor (rerum naturae) from the Georg August Universität, Göttingen, Germany, Full Professor of Pharmacognosy & Natural Products since 1998 at Facultad de Química, Universidad de la República, Uruguay. Since 2005 he has also been the founder and Director of the Grupo de Análisis de Contaminantes Traza (GACT), the first academic group working on modern trace analysis of organic contaminants in Uruguay. His main research interests are analytical method development for trace organic contaminants in food and environment, method validation & data treatment for chemical food safety, food authenticity, and environmental sustainability. In the natural products area, he works on spectroscopic structure elucidation of bioactive compounds and metabolomics studies using NMR and Mass spectrometry. He supervised 20 PhD theses in Uruguay, Brazil, and Spain. He dictated more than 25 regional and international training courses on pesticide residue analysis and contaminants in the last 10 years for the Joint FAO/IAEA center, FIO CRUZ, LAPRW, CYTED. He published as author or co-author 173 scientific articles, and 12 book chapters, and lectured in more than 35 scientific events. He was co-editor of a thematic issue for Analytical Methods and a book on pesticide residue analysis. He is a member of the National Codex Committee for Metrology. He co-founded the Latin America Pesticide Residues Workshop (LAPRW) and is a member of the Advisory Committee of Crop Protection IUPAC (Division VI). He was President of the Sociedad Latinoamericana de Fitoquímica (2005-2008). He was a consultant of CARU/CARP (Comisión Administradora del Rio Uruguay y del Río de la Plata) and during one year at the FAO&IAEA Joint Center in Vienna. He has the highest levels within the National Research System (SNI-ANII) and the Programa de Desarrollo de las Ciencias Básicas (PEDECIBA). He was Visiting professor at the University of Santa María and Caxias do Sul, Brazil, Universidad Nacional del Litoral, Argentina, Universidad de Almería, España. He married Maria Veronica Cesio 44 years ago, and they have 6 sons and daughters and 9 grandchildren.
