The affairs of SETAC are managed by the executive directors and staff with oversight from the SETAC global and geographic unit boards and councils. The SETAC governing bodies rely on committees for advice as needed. Membership to committees is based on position within governance or by invitation.

Standing Committees
Executive Committee
Leadership: The Global Executive Director and the SETAC World Council President
The SETAC Executive Committee is the operational management arm of SETAC with authority as delegated by the SETAC World Council and duties as defined by the SETAC bylaws. The executive committee consists of the officers of SETAC (i.e., president, vice president, immediate past president and treasurer) and the global executive director.
Finance Committee
Leadership: The Global Executive Director and the SETAC World Council Treasurer
The Finance Committee advises, makes policy recommendations and recommends operating procedures to the SETAC World Council and global executive director on all aspects of SETAC’s finances, including annual operating budget, increasing SETAC’s financial base, membership dues policy, fee structure for SWC meetings, courses and publications, and long-range fiscal planning for SETAC.
Science Committee
Leadership: SETAC Scientific Affairs Managers
The global Science Committee provides guidance, direction and assistance to the SETAC World Council in addressing technical and scientific issues with the objective of ensuring overall scientific excellence. The committee is charged with assuming a coordinating role within SETAC and, as such, works closely and coordinates its activities with other committees at the regional level. The committee is composed of two members from each of the five geographic units (the science committee chair and co-chair or governance leadership), and 1-2 members at large as needed to ensure a committee with diverse representation (technical expertise, sector and other characteristics).

The global Awards Committee is comprised of several subcommittees to help administer the many award opportunities within SETAC. The committee’s efforts are governed by standard operating procedures.
Publications and Communications Committee
Leadership: SETAC Publications and Communications Managers
Chairs: Karen Kidd and Mirco Bundschuh
The PCC assesses issues and makes recommendations to the SETAC World Council regarding all publication policies, guided by these standard operating procedures.

Awards Committee
Chair: Marie-Hélène Enrici
The Awards Committee plays a central role in evaluating and developing the success of the SETAC Europe Awards Programme. Their key tasks include soliciting and assessing nominations for the SETAC Europe awards, as well as soliciting and evaluating applications for SETAC Europe grants. Additionally, the committee advises the council about selection procedures and criteria for SETAC Europe awards and grants.

Certification Program Committee
Chair: Kees van Gestel
The Certification Program Committee plays a central role in the SETAC Europe Certification of Environmental Risk Assessors (CRA) program and is contributing to the development of a global SETAC certification program.
Diversity and Inclusion Committee
Chair: Sabine Apitz (interim chair)
The Diversity and Inclusion Committee seeks to identify topics of concern and solutions regarding diversity and inclusion raised by the membership. The committee’s main task is to provide advice surrounding these themes to the SETAC Europe Council and SETAC staff, and action programs to improve creating awareness and securing equitable access to opportunities.
🔍 12 vacancies arise in 2024 for the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee, including the role of vice chair. The committee warmly welcomes candidates who are committed to and knowledgeable about DEI, with a resourceful and self-starting mindset.
Education Committee
Chair: Ana Marta Gonçalves
Supporting SETAC with its mission to promote education in environmental sciences, the Education Committee plans and coordinates all activities of SETAC Europe related to the education of the membership and the general public. Specifically, the committee calls upon and evaluates proposals for training courses and advises on other annual meeting course programs.

Finance Committee
Chair: Iseult Lynch
The Finance Committee plays a central role in providing financial oversight of SETAC Europe and supporting the SETAC Europe executive director to develop and maintain a financially sound organization. Its main tasks include reviewing the annual plan, budget and quarterly financial statements, and advising the SETAC Europe Council on these matters as well as fund management.
🔍 In 2024, 5 vacancies arise in the Finance Committee. Members with an affinity for finances and willing to commit approximately 1 day per quarter to review are welcome to apply. The ability to critically review balance sheets and profit and loss accounts, as well as any knowledge or experience with fund management, is an asset.
Regional Branches Committee
Chair: Henner Hollert
The Regional Branches Committee operates as the liaison between the SETAC Europe Council and the SETAC Europe branches, and it serves as a platform for communication and sharing of experiences between the individual language branches. Key tasks include making suggestions to ensure the Society's success and reputation in selected regions, seeking new initiatives to maintain a community feeling in existing regions, and pursuing ways to grow or develop new regions.
🔍 The Regional Branches Committee welcomes any members passionate about the SETAC community and its representation across European regions. Members from existing regional branches are especially welcome to join this committee.
Science Committee
Chair: Véronique Poulsen
The purpose of the Science Committee is to ensure the overall scientific excellence of SETAC and its members and to provide guidance, direction and assistance to the Society on technical issues. The committee evaluates and advises about proposals for workshops, symposia and meetings on the basis of scientific and social relevance and SETAC’s mission, vision, principles and values. Additionally, the committee identifies topics of concern that could benefit from a SETAC event to increase the understanding and advance science and risk assessment procedures.
Student Advisory Council (SAC Europe)
Chair: Markus Schmitz
The SAC Europe aims to improve the communication among students within SETAC and offers opportunities to students to get in contact with senior members of the Society. It organizes numerous student activities at the annual meetings and during the year.

The Finance Committee is chaired by the treasurer and includes select members of the executive committee, a few members at large and the executive director.
Nominations Committee
Chair: Tisha King Heiden and Alan Jones; SETAC North America Immediate Past President and Vice President
The Nominations Committee ensures the sustainability of the Board of Directors and its duties. It is responsible for identifying candidates for election to the Board of Directors of SETAC North America and its representatives to the SETAC World Council as defined by the bylaws.
Science Committee
Chair: Adraina Bejanaro
The Science Committee is charged by the Board of Directors with providing guidance, direction and assistance to the board in support of ensuring SETAC North America continually promotes the dissemination of current science, including but not limited to methodology development, new approaches and emerging fields of research.

Annual Meeting Program Committee

Annual Meeting Program Committees operate for a cycle of 18–24 months. Separate calls for chairs, committee members are publicly issued. If interested in volunteering in a program committee, please contact the executive director.
Awards and Fellowship Committee
Chair: Ryan Prosser
The Awards and Fellowship Committee is charged by the Board of Directors with administering the many award and grant opportunities within SETAC North America.
Careers Committee
Chair: Andrew Barrick
The Careers Committee is charged by the Board of Directors with assistance in planning programs dedicated to career development skills and strategies for the SETAC North America membership.
Inclusive Diversity Committee
Chair: Tracie Baker and Rachel Sorensen
The Inclusive Diversity Committee is charged by the Board of Directors with providing programs that are specifically targeted to underrepresented groups at SETAC North America (due to ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic status, physical or mental difference, religion, age, national origin, or otherwise) and serving as a focal point for interaction among these affinity groups. Regional Chapters Committee

The Regional Chapters Committee leadership executes programs that SETAC North America has in place in support of regional chapters. The committee, as a whole, provides an avenue of communication among regional chapter leadership, the Board of Directors and staff.
Students Advisory Committee (NASAC)
Chair: Adam Wronski
NASAC is comprised of student members who represent each of the SETAC North America regional chapters and a few members at large. NASAC's focus is on planning student-centric programming at SETAC North America.
Training and Education Committee
Chair: Ryan Heisler
The Training and Education Committee is charged by the Board of Directors with the planning and coordination of continuing education of the membership through professional training courses, and development and promotion of educational information and extension activities or materials for the general public.
