SETAC North America is dedicated to achieving scientific diversity in its programming. Specifically, the society is interested in supporting the representation of Indigenous Peoples who are environmental professionals and want to contribute to and have a vested interest in environmental research, management and policy, but who may not have the financial resources to attend a SETAC North America annual meeting.
Therefore, SETAC North America created the Indigenous Peoples of North America Meeting Attendance Grant to encourage participation of Indigenous Peoples at the SETAC North America annual meeting. The grant will be made available to the Indigenous Peoples of North America, including but not limited to Native Americans, Native Hawaiians, Alaska Natives, First Nations, Inuit, Métis and the many Indigenous Peoples of Mexico.
The award includes a registration waiver, one-year SETAC membership and travel stipend of US$500. The number of awards may vary from year-to-year.
Requirements and Restrictions
Applicant must complete the award application in full, provide their CV or resume, and include the following information:
- Name of the Indigenous community in North America (Canada, Mexico or the United States, including U.S. territories)
- Commitment to attend the meeting in full
- An agenda of the courses, sessions or business meetings the applicant plans to attend and whether they will present their work in a poster or platform presentation at the meeting
- Financial need based on the level of support the employer will provide
Past recipients of the award may reapply for the award once every three years. For example, if you receive funding to attend the 2019 annual meeting in Toronto, the next time you can apply is 2022.
