SETAC North America Training and Education Committee
Share |

Focus of the Training and Education Committee is to solicit and review as well as plan and coordinate professional training courses held at SETAC North America annual meetings. The committee provides advisory opinions on proposals for professional training courses to be held at regional chapter meetings and evaluates new venues of professional training course instructions and extension materials.

Most committee meetings are conducted via phone conference or online. They are scheduled as needed but held at least three times a year. A face-to-face meeting is held at the annual SETAC North America conference.

Professional Training Course Instructors:
Professional training courses are generally offered by volunteers from the SETAC membership. Instructors are from academia, government and business alike. We try to offer some perks (such as complimentary registration fees) to instructors, but we acknowledge that we wouldn’t be able to pay for the work needed to create and instruct a professional training course. It is to the credit of the membership of SETAC to see high-quality courses offered each year.

Professional Training Course Topics:
Topics are generated with feedback from previous participants, input from the SETAC membership community, and discussion with the local program committee for the SETAC North America meeting. The focus is on selecting up-to-date topics as well as general scientific topics of interest. We also try to expand the range of topics to include non-scientific courses to support skills scientists might need to succeed (such as communication or presentation skills).

Feedback to the Committee:
The committee welcomes feedback and ideas with regard to professional training courses. Please contact Steve Levine.  Please let us know how we can best serve you!
