The environmental sciences will gain a new strong ally in Latin America. In July /20, SETAC Latin America announced the creation of a scientific committee bringing together professionals with experiences in academia, industry and government.
The purpose of the SETAC Latin America (SLA) Science Committee (SC) is to provide guidance, direction, and assistance to the Society. It will address technical issues to ensure the overall scientific and technical excellence of SLA, its activities, and its members.
The SC will communicate and work with SLA advisory groups and committees to maintain awareness of SLA activities and procedures, and to bring emerging science or technical issues to the SLA membership-at-large.
The main specific objectives of the SC are:
Review of technical aspects of proposed workshops and symposia (e.g. SETAC LA Meeting; Fundão Dam Science Meeting; Brazilian Ecotox Conference);
Promote cooperative research in environmental sciences developed in Latin America;
Promote education and scientific communication to the general public;
Support SETAC regional chapters (Andean chapter, Brazilian Society of Ecotoxicology, SETAC Argentina etc);
Promote the interaction of SETAC LA with government authorities from Latin America countries;
Activities in social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, others), bringing information about activities and local papers (Latin American);
Promotion of short courses;
