The Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) stands with the black community – our members, friends and colleagues. We know that the racism in policies and the systemic and cultural barriers that black scientists have to face in order to advance their scholarship and careers is daunting. We recognize the daily challenges that black environmental scientists face as they execute routine tasks that white scientists do not encounter. Science is no stranger to racism, nor is our society. While SETAC acknowledges it has not addressed these issues before directly, we are now actively taking a stand and will no longer be silent in matters that perpetuate hate towards the black community. We are committed to working together to strive for equity, diversity, inclusivity and representation in SETAC and across the environmental sciences.
Thank you to the SETAC Leadership for this statement. This is a difficult time around the Globe, and unity is needed now more than ever. May we all speak peace, and unity to all and help to bring justice and calm into our communities. GPC3
