In Latin America, there is growing interest in the development of national chemicals management programs to support domestic environmental protection goals. To support the development of risk-based chemicals management programs in Latin America, the SETAC International Programs Committee (IPC) is hosting a series of seminars in Latin America focused on the primary elements of environmental risk assessment (hazard evaluation, exposure assessment and risk characterization) and their practical application.

Each seminar will include a detailed overview of the practical considerations associated with each element, a review of the most recent scientific advancements and relevant case studies to provide practical “real-world” experiences. The next symposium, titled “Evidence-based Hazard Evaluation for Industrial Chemicals” will take place during the XV Brazil Congress on Ecotoxicology (ECOTOX 2018) on 3 September in Aracaju, Sergipe, Brazil. The symposium is hosted by SETAC Latin America and the SETAC International Programs Committee.
