Call for Proposals for SETAC Latin America to Address Important Environmental Issues
Friday, April 6, 2018
The Brazilian Federal Funding Agency (FINEP) and São Paulo State Research Funding Agency (FAPESP), in partnership with SETAC Latin America, are seeking proposals for research projects to support the development of innovative products, processes and services in ecotoxicology, water contamination and precipitation data by small companies in São Paulo State, Brazil. International collaborations are welcome, but the proponent has to be located in São Paulo State.
The deadline to submit a proposal is 28 May 2018.
SETAC Latin America provided major input to identify areas of interest for the research projects through the SETAC Global Horizon Scanning Project (GHSP). The GHSP surveyed scientists and engineers from around the globe, with a focus on regionally specific priorities, in order to determine the most important future environmental research questions.
For this call for proposals, the organizers are especially interested in projects focusing on the following themes:
- Bioaccumulation of active pharmaceutical compounds, metabolites and their mixtures in aquatic organisms: Evaluation of the implications from a long-term perspective for human health and the environment
- Environmental variables that trigger the production of algal toxins in the environment; risks to human health from exposure through trophic levels
- Characterization of individual and combined risks of diffuse chemical contaminants (such as pesticides, other endocrine disrupting chemicals, drugs) related to the promotion of more sustainable agricultural, urban and industrial activities
- Impact of temperature changes and precipitation on the emission, processing and deposition of toxic chemicals in living organisms from aquatic ecosystems
