The primary purpose of SETAC Interest Groups (IGs) is to provide a venue for scientists with an interest in a particular scientific topic to share knowledge and expertise and advance the topic. Participation in all IGs is open to all interested parties. If you are not already a member of this IG and would like to be, make sure you are signed in to your SETAC account then click "Join Group” near the top of this page.
The purpose of the Global SETAC Interest Group on Bioaccumulation Assessments (‘B’ SIG) is to advance the state of bioaccumulation science, and increase the use of sound science in decision-making through the use of models, in vitro, and in vivo data for bench-scale, site-specific and regional bioaccumulation assessments.
The ‘B’ SIG’s overall mission is to identify and communicate with decision-makers, thought leaders, and interested scientists that can create and apply information on new bioaccumulation-related tests and assessment approaches.
The ‘B’ SIG coordinates the organization of technical sessions at all regional SETAC meetings and holds regular business meetings with its membership at all SETAC meetings.
The ‘B’ SIG hosts workshops for scientists on emerging issues and short courses for educators and stakeholders needing to explain and help incorporate new testing or tiered approach assessment methodologies into current assessment paradigms.
The ‘B’ SIG actively works with other entities involved in advancing bioaccumulation science to take advantage of the authoritative experts, thought leaders, and decision-makers in SETAC, representing many environmental science disciplines and types of work (educators, regulators, government and academic researchers, industry scientists).
The ‘B’ SIG Steering Committee has three primary goals
- to identify priorities for research and conceptual development in the field of bioaccumulation,
- to arrange presentation sessions and other activities at annual meetings to focus on these priorities,
- to actively communicate with and include members from all sectors and regions.
IG operations are organized by a steering committee. Please contact the chairs of the IG if you would like to be involved.
