Mission and Purpose

The HHRA IG exists to serve as a scientific resource to all stakeholders impacted by the topic of human health exposures and risk and fulfills the following mission and purpose:

  • Serve as a focal point within SETAC as a means of involving the membership in research and discussions
  • Stimulate critical assessment in order to establish the best available science
  • Encourage the worldwide incorporation of the best available science and strategic approaches
  • Advance the overall understanding of the fate, effects, and potential health consequences of environmental stresses
  • Provide scientific support to ensure effective regulatory decision making
  • Provide a neutral platform and focal point for collaborative identification, evaluation and resolution of scientific issues

Goals - 2017

  • Promote the HHRA IG within and outside SETAC and grow its membership.

  • Sponsor several sessions at the SETAC North America Meeting by fostering collaboration with other IGs to advance HHRA methods  and application with SETAC.
  • Revise the IG Charter.


  • The HHRA IG Steering Committee holds periodic conference calls that are open to all members.
  • The HHRA IG typically holds one formal meeting per year at the SETAC North America Annual Meeting.

Brian Mulhearn wrote on the North America Interest Groups: Human Health Risk Assessment wall: We are pleased to announce the HHRA IG sponsored Risk Communication Toolbox session has been accepted for inclusion in the upcoming SETAC North America 38th Annual Meeting to be held November 12-16 in Minneapolis, MN. If you are thinking about attending the annual SNA meeting this year, we encourage you to submit an abstract. Abstracts should be submitted through the SETAC online submission site (https://msp.setac.org/program/scientific-program/abstract-submission/). Abstract submission is OPEN NOW, and the deadline for abstract submission is June 7. Look for details in an upcoming email, and hope to see you in Minneapolis!
