2008 Regional Chapter Meeting

About

The Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry is a nonprofit professional society,established in 1979, to promote the use of a multi-disciplinary, scientific approach to solvingproblems of the impact of chemicals and technology on the environment. Society membershipconsists of professionals in the fields of chemistry, toxicology, biology, ecology, atmosphericsciences, health sciences, and earth sciences. SETAC provides a forum for individuals andinstitutions engaged in the study of environmental issues, management and regulation of natural resources, education, and research and development.

Meetings

The 2008 annual spring meeting of the SETAC South Central Chapter will be held at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, May 15-17, 2008. Abstracts for oral and poster presentations will be accepted until April 25, 2008 and early, discounted registration is available until April 15. Registration includes a short course on nanotoxicology, presentations, continental breakfasts, lunch and the Bayou City's version of a meeting favorite: the BBQ social. Senior Consulting Environmental Chemist

• Minimum of a Ph.D. in chemistry (8+ years’ experience). MS in chemistry with 15+ years’ experience also accepted

Senior Environmental Scientist/Manager, TX Location
This position is located near Galveston, TX.

• Minimum of a Bachelors degree in biology, chemistry, toxicology or related sciences
• Experience: B.S./B.A. (>15 years), M.S. (>10 years), Ph.D. (>8 years) or demonstrated performance
• Familiarity with data management and word processing software
• Able to perform duties described below in work setting with potential physical and chemical hazards including, but not necessarily limited to, lifting of heavy objects, extreme weather conditions, rapidly moving transportation and remediation equipment, and physical stress associated with cumbersome personal protective equipment
• Act as a member of an emergency response team, traveling with limited notice to potentially remote areas to conduct air, water, and/or soil sampling, meteorological monitoring, information collection, and other duties as assigned
• Extensive experience in business development
• Able to work overtime and on weekends, if necessary

Environmental Scientist/Toxicologist
KBA EnviroScience, Ltd) (KBA) is seeking an Environmental Scientist/Toxicologist to perform TRRP Ecological Risk Assessments and support other ecological and environmental projects. Successful candidate will have a broad base of expertise and experience on environmental projects with specific experience with TRRP and TRRP ecological risk assessments. Other assignments will likely include wetland delineation and permitting projects, protected species surveys, NEPA projects, and Phase I ESAs. Occasional travel is required. Field work may be strenuous on some projects.
This is a full-time, permanent position and includes a full benefit package. Salary commensurate with experience

• Degree in biology, environmental science, or related area. Advanced degree a plus.
• At least 5 years experience, including TRRP and ecological risk assessments.
• Experience with at least some of the following: wetland delineations and permitting, NEPA, protected species, and Phase I ESAs.
• Must have good organizational and task/project management skills.
