ANNUAL CHAPTER MEETINGS

OP-SETAC holds its annual meeting in spring, usually after completion of spring terms of universities in the region. Meeting locations rotate among host locations in the chapter's five "core states:" Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.

Chapter meetings usually last two days, with a third day devoted to short courses. Meetings include: a plenary session with invited speakers; contributed poster and platform sessions, which include student award competitions, meetings of the general membership and the board of directors. Other enjoyable aspects of chapter meetings are the field trips and socials, which offer opportunities for networking, camaraderie, and friendly athletic competition.

STUDENT AWARDS COMPETITIONS

OP-SETAC encourages participation by students in chapter and national SETAC meetings through its student awards program. Awards are presented for the best poster and best platform talks presented by students at chapter meetings. Winners of the Best Poster Award (sponsored by Bayer Corporation) and the Best Platform Presentation Award receive travel awards worth up to $500 to reimburse expenses associated with attendance at the national SETAC meeting. Two runners-up in each category (poster and platform) are reimbursed for a year's SETAC membership.

SHORT COURSES

Short courses are conducted in conjunction with OP-SETAC chapter meetings to give chapter members a convenient and economical opportunity to continue their professional development, without all the expense of attending a national meeting. OP-SETAC short courses utilize the special expertise of chapter professionals and focus on issues of special interest to our region, but they also include workshops previously offered at national and international meetings. Topics covered in recent OP-SETAC short courses include:
