SETAC North America is a Geographic Unit (GU) of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC), established to promote and undertake activities of SETAC in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and to support other GUs in Asia / Pacific, Europe, and Latin America. SETAC North America is dedicated to the use of multidisciplinary approaches to examine the impacts of stressors, chemicals, and technology on the environment. The Society also provides an open forum for scientists and institutions engaged in the study of environmental problems, management and regulation of natural resources, education, research and development, and manufacturing.
A unique strength of SETAC is its commitment to balance the interests of academia, business, and government. The Society by-laws mandate equal representation from these three sectors for officers, Board of Directors, and Committee members.
The primary goals of SETAC North America are:
- To support the development of principles and practices for protection, enhancement and management of sustainable environmental quality and ecosystem integrity.
- To encourage interactions among environmental scientists and disseminate information on environmental toxicology and chemistry.
- To provide a forum for communication among professionals in government, business, academia, and other segments of the environmental science community and for the protection and welfare of the general public.
SETAC North America is incorporated in the U.S.A. as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, EIN #37-1482800. It maintains its administrative office in Pensacola, Florida.
