The SETAC Logo and Trademark Guidelines are intended to clarify and update the specifications of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry name, acronym, and logo (symbol), and to define the conditions of their use.

  1. The name (Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry), the acronym (SETAC), and the logo (see website header) are registered trademarks in the United States of America and in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg; the acronym and logo are registered trademarks in the United Kingdom. Registration is pending in all European countries and throughout the Asian-Pacific area.
  2. The unadulterated logo must appear in the upper left corner of official stationary. Chapter and branch logos and annual meeting (or world congress) logos may be used on official stationary and on promotional materials after Board or Directors or Council approval, with SETAC World Council (SWC) oversight. The SETAC logo must not be incorporated into those logos in part or in whole.
  3. The words “Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry” should be written on one line, be placed to the right of the logo, and be no higher or lower than the middle segment of the logo, whenever possible. The typeface of the name if Helvetica Bold, and that of the acronym is Helvetica Narrow.
  4. In no case shall the SETAC name, acronym, and/or logo be used in conjunction with a commercial product or advertisement without express advance approval, in writing, of the Board of Directors or Council. This includes, but is not limited to meeting materials (bags, note pads, announcements, etc.)
  5. For any publication or printing that will be copied, the solid logo is to be used because the colored logo does not copy well. Camera-ready solid logos are available from the Pensacola SETAC Office, which is the repository for official logo artwork.
  6. For color printing, the ink colors are PMS 286 (blue) and PMS 338 (green). The light blue in the top segment of the logo (bird and sky) is PMS 286, screened. Camera-ready logos for color printing also are available from the Pensacola SETAC Office.
  7. Electronic versions of the logo can be obtained by special request to the Executive Director. Special care should be taken to avoid unnecessary, unlimited distribution of the logo in electronic format because abuses and misuses can easily occur.

The purpose of these rules and guidelines is to assure the integrity of the name of the Society, its acronym, and the SETAC logo (symbol), and to assure proper use so that they will be recognized and respected worldwide. SETAC is the sole owner of the name, acronym, and logo, and their use must be explicitly approved by the SETAC Board of Directors or Council, with oversight by the SWC, to assure their validity.
