The SETAC North America (SETAC NA) Endowment Fund was established in 2005 to develop and grow invested funds in perpetuity in order to annually generate investment proceeds for SETAC’s use in supporting technical, scientific and educational activities. Contributions to the Fund are received through a combination of current and planned gifts by SETAC members, their home organizations and other philanthropic groups. The Endowment Fund has reached a level of $47,000 and will achieve the initial principal threshold target of $50,000 in 2008 which will allow annual proceeds to be committed to Society projects in 2009. This is a critical accomplishment for the Fund and the Board of Trustees thanks all of the members for their important contributions. We urge your continuing financial support to ensure an ongoing commitment to our Society’s important mission…to encourage responsible environmental management decision-making informed by sound environmental science principles.
How the Fund Operates
The Endowment Fund Board of Trustees operates under the purview of the SETAC NA Development Committee and the annually-audited Fund will be managed by the SETAC NA Secretary-Treasurer. Beginning in 2009, income from the invested Fund principal will be used to support Society activities. SETAC North America, in consultation with the Fund Board of Trustees and the Society Board of Directors will have the authority to accept current and planned gifts, grants and contributions to enhance the Fund principal. Two substantial planned gifts (bequests) have already been committed to the Fund and two members have committed a portion of future proceeds from SETAC book sales to the Fund. In addition, a number of memorial and recognition gifts and Challenge Grant contributions have been received by the Fund since 2006. With proper financial support, the Endowment Fund principal will continuously grow generating annual support for worthy projects including student functions, specialty symposia, sessions, briefings and annual meeting activities so long as these activities are consistent with the Society’s mission. The amount of available annual support depends upon the size of the Fund.
