ET&C published highly cited, heavily downloaded Focus Articles and Critical Reviews in 2012. These articles highlight the latest research in the field, and have become a valuable asset to ET&C readers. The journal is now accepting proposals for Focus Articles for the second half of 2013 and would like to encourage SETAC members to submit their ideas and research. If you have an idea for a Focus Article, please contact ET&C’s Editor-in-Chief Allen Burton at etc@setac.org. Critical Reviews can be submitted online throughout the year at mc.manuscriptcentral.com:80/etc.

New Paper Series on Global Climate Change Workshop Now Available

Available NOW! A series of papers, the first on this subject, that publish the findings from a Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) international workshop titled "The Influence of Global Climate Change on the Scientific Foundations and Applications of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry” in Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (ET&C).

These papers stem from the criticism that environmental toxicologists and chemists have been largely absent from the international debate on Global Climate Change. Human health and ecological risk assessment will become increasingly important in decisions about how best to adapt, and will require thorough assessments prior to and during any implementations. Failure to do so may leave assessors in emergency conditions with scant data to perform technically robust assessments. Because of the significance of this topic, the workshop sponsors are providing open access to all of the publications in this series on the ET&C web site.

The papers tackle the impacts of global climate change on chemical contaminants, organism acclimation and vulnerable communities as important considerations for future assessments of human and ecological risk. They address the need to consider all potential consequences, while accounting for the magnitude and duration of anticipated impacts in combination with the nature and severity of a changing climate. Practitioners must also overcome the challenges of continually shifting baseline conditions while estimating the extent of injury to resources and the extent of restoration needed as a result of the chemical effects from climate change.

Congratulations are in order to celebrate this important accomplishment.
In recent years, the fund has helped students and early career
environmental science and engineering faculty to participate in annual
meetings. Your contributions will continue to grow the fund in order to
generate annual proceeds and support a variety of technical, scientific
and educational activities consistent with SETAC's mission.

In
addition, we are pleased to announce a wonderful Challenge Grant
provided by Dr. C. H. (Herb) Ward to donate $5,000 to the Endowment Fund
if five other members each make the same commitment to the Fund before
the end of 2012. We are hoping to significantly build the Endowment Fund
this year and request your help in doing so. Please call Gene Mancini
