Student Activities
As an undergraduate, a graduate student, or a professional in a postdoctoral fellowship, be sure to plan to attend the student functions at the SETAC North America 27 th Annual Meeting! Students are an important component of SETAC, and these events give all students an opportunity to exchange ideas and talk with peers from other research facilities. These events are informal, interactive, and inexpensive - we include the cost in your registration. We look forward to seeing you in Montreal!
Here are some things you don’t want to miss!
- Student Lounge - Use the student lounge for networking! The lounge will be available from Sunday through Thursday for students to build professional relationships--check program for location
- Job Skills Workshop: Employment in Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry - On Sunday, sign up for this educational workshop. This seminar is a practical short course that is designed to aid students with the process of career job hunting in today's job market. It will be conducted by academic, consulting, industry and government SETAC members.
- Monday Noontime Seminar: Career Experiences Panel - This seminar will include a panel of employed chemists, biologists, toxicologists from the academic, consulting, education, government, industry, and non-government organization, to share more about careers in environmental chemistry and toxicology. Pre-registering students will be able to sign up for the lunch during the seminar.
- Student Career-Mentor Event - After Monday’s poster session, plan to attend the Student Career-Mentor Event . You can’t afford to miss this opportunity to mingle and network with many SETAC members! Your participation will strengthen the networks within SETAC and provide a valuable opportunity for discussion of scientific topics and career experiences. The cost of the Career-Mentor dinner is included in your student registration and pre-registering is requested for mentor planning!
- Wednesday Noontime Seminar: Networking by Expertise - learn how to create, build, maintain and use a network by areas of expertise that can make your career choices more meaningful. This interactive discussion will provide opportunities for students to begin networking with each other and other SETAC members with various levels of experience! Let us know if you want to hear from various scientific expert areas (email Cindy Howard at howardc@uhcl.edu). Pre-registering students will be able to sign up for the lunch during the seminar.
- Informal Mixer - At the end of the day, plan on attending the Informal Mixer on Wednesday night starting at 8pm. The Student Council and Student Activities Committee will be arranging this mixer as another means to network. Watch the SETAC meeting webpage and check the Student Council booth for up-to-date information.
