Urgent Notice for Foreign National Attendees
You
are invited to attend the MidSouth SETAC Regional Chapter annual meeting to be
held at the U.S. Army Engineer Research & Development Center (ERDC) in Vicksburg, MS.
The meeting will be hosted by the ERDC Environmental Laboratory, which serves as
a problem solver for the Corps and the Nation in environmental science, and engineering
research and development support relevant to environmental systems.
We are inviting abstracts and
participation in the following areas:
- The Role of Plants in
Environmental Security: From Phytoremediation to Coastal Stabilization
- Perspectives to
Approaching Impact Assessment: Molecular to Landscape
- Hurricane Katrina: Two
Years After
- Other Topics in
Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry
Abstracts for platform and poster
presentations must be submitted by MAY 2, 2008.
The
2008 annual meeting will start Wednesday evening, May 14, with a sunset cruise
on the Sweet Olive
along the Mississippi River Wednesday evening a
chance for us to greet old friends and meet new ones. Space is limited, so
reserve your spot today! The meeting will start Thursday, May 15, featuring a morning
short course, afternoon platform sessions and an evening poster session. To
unwind from all the exciting research of the day, we plan to descend into Downtown Vicksburg for
socializing and optional walking tours of the historic buildings. On Friday,
May 16, we will open our session with four plenary speakers addressing timely topics
related to different aspects of Environmental Security ranging from coastal protection
following Hurricane Katrina to emerging materials used by the Department of
Defense. The meeting will conclude following our awards luncheon. Tour of select
EL facilities will be available following lunch, for those interested.
Registration
for the meeting will be $40/regular and $20/student until May 2 ($55/regular
and $35/student after May 2). Registration includes the short course; all
presentations, posters, and discussions; continental breakfasts and coffee
breaks; and lunch on Friday. The Sweet Olive river cruise tickets will be an
additional $25 for those interested. Please make checks payable to "Setac Mid-South Chapter". Overnight
