SETAC / Royal Society of Chemistry ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AWARD
Nominations are currently being sought for the SETAC/Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Environmental Science Award. This award, offered jointly by SETAC and the Royal Society of Chemistry, is for early to mid-career scientists who have accomplished and published outstanding contributions that have advanced the understanding or development of environmental systems, technologies, methodologies or other relevant research in the environmental sciences.
To qualify as an early to mid-career scientist, the individual must be aged 25 to 40. However, consideration will be given to individuals outside of this age grouping if they are still an early to mid-career scientist. Please contact the awards committee regarding eligibility for nomination if you believe this situation applies to your nomination.
The winner of the award, which will be announced each year at the SETAC North America Annual Meeting, will be in the form of USD $1,000 to support the cost of the recipient to attend the SETAC Annual Meeting, a waiver for conference registration fees for that year, a one year subscription to the RSC’s Journal of Environmental Monitoring, and a one year subscription to SETAC’s Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (if they are not already a SETAC member). The second place winner will receive an honorable mention, a one year subscription to the RSC’s Journal of Environmental Monitoring, and a one year subscription to SETAC’s Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (if they are not already a SETAC member). .
Eligibility:
A candidate does not have to be a member of either SETAC or the RSC, however, in order to qualify for this award, individuals under consideration must:
- Have published two papers in peer-reviewed journals within the two years preceding June 30 th of the year in which the nomination is being made. Preference will be given to papers published in SETAC’s Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry or RSCs Journal of Environmental Monitoring;
- Be nominated before the published deadline by an individual or individuals who believe the nominee has made a significant contribution to environmental science and who support that belief in their nomination letter;
- May be from any of the three membership sectors of the Societies (academia, government or private);
- Must be in an early to mid-career position, between 25 and 40 years of age;
- Consideration will be given to individuals outside of this age grouping if they are still an early to mid-career scientist. Please contact the awards committee regarding eligibility for nomination if you believe this situation applies to your nomination;
- May be self-nominated OR nominated by a colleague familiar with their work.
Application Instructions:
A nomination package must include:
- Letter(s) of nomination (three letters maximum, maximum length of two pages each);
- Citation(s) of the article(s) under consideration;
- Curriculum vitae of the individual being nominated that also documents the completion date of the formal full time educational program that relates to the area of nomination;
- Descriptions of relevant work and contributions to environmental science;
- Nominations for the award must be received in the SETAC Office, Pensacola, FL by the 30 th of June;
- ALL nomination packages must be in a SINGLE file in PDF format and must be submitted electronically to setac@setac.org;
- Applications with multiple PDF files will NOT be accepted;
- Applications submitted by MAIL or FAX will NOT be accepted.
Selection of Awardee:
The SETAC North America Awards and Fellowships Subcommittee for Research Awards will evaluate all proposals by using a standardized score sheet . The recipient will be announced at the SETAC North America Annual Meeting.
