November 2005
The Society of Environmental Toxicology
and Chemistry (SETAC) has awarded the Environmental
Institute of Houston (EIH) and the Texas State Envirothon
Program the 2005 Menzie-Cura Education Award in recognition
of ongoing efforts to encourage the participation of
high school students in environmental education.
This program involves high school students
in environmental education at a high participatory level
and inspires students to choose careers in the field.
The students learn about issues not covered in regular
class work and are educated to become more responsible
citizens.
The SETAC/Menzie-Cura Education Award
recognizes an individual, group, organization or corporation
that has made a major contribution in improving environmental
science education. The recipient must make significant
advancements to environmental awareness education for
youth either through educating other instructors or
by working with community groups and K-12 programs.
SETAC is a not-for-profit, worldwide
professional society consisting of individuals and
institutions dedicated to the study, analysis, and
solution of environmental problems; the management
and regulation of natural resources; environmental
education; and research and development. Visit
www.setac.org
