The Society of Environmental
Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) awarded Crista Straub
the 2005 SETAC/EA Engineering Jeff Black Award at the
SETAC North America annual meeting in November 2005.
Straub was selected to
receive the 2005 award for her thesis work studying
the impacts of PCB exposures on the reproductive success
of great blue heron at Crab Orchard National Wildlife
Refuge in Illinois. She is pursuing a master's degree
in zoology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale
and has been a graduate research assistant in the Fisheries
and Illinois Aquaculture Center since 2003.
"It is an honor to
receive the Jeff Black award, especially knowing how
many other qualified master's students there are,"
says Straub, who earned a bachelor's degree in biology
from Southeast Missouri State University in 2002. "I
would also like to thank EA Engineering and SETAC for
their contributions."
This award is in recognition
of Jeff Black's life in science and his contributions
to SETAC. The award is co-sponsored by SETAC and EA
Engineering. This $2,000 (USD) award is given to a SETAC
member who is a student or entering student pursuing
a master's degree in a field of study encompassed by
the Society.
SETAC is a not-for-profit,
