Gorsuch receives Herb Ward Exceptional
Service Award
22 October 2003
The Society of Environmental
Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) has awarded Dr. Joe
Gorsuch the 2003 Herb Ward Exceptional Service Award
in recognition of his long-standing support to SETAC.
Gorsuch, manager of environmental
studies at Eastman Kodak Company, was presented with
the Herb Ward Exceptional Service Award during the opening
session of SETAC North America's 24th Annual Meeting
held Nov. 9-13, 2003, in Austin, Texas. This prestigious
award is given annually to an individual who has performed
long-term, exceptionally high-quality service for SETAC.
Gorsuch was selected to
receive the Herb Ward Exceptional Service Award for
his extensive involvement in SETAC meetings, committees
and publications, as well as his outreach activities
and commitment to a solid scientific basis for environmental
understandings of metals. He has coordinated the silver
environmental fate and effects research program at more
than 20 university and contract laboratories. Between
1993 and 1999, he helped organize and conduct six international
conferences on silver and a two day session, "Silver
in the Environment," at the 1998 SETAC North America
Annual Meeting.
Gorsuch coordinated and
served as guest editor for two series of silver papers
published in SETAC's journal, Environmental Toxicology
and Chemistry. He also initiated the development of
the biotic ligand model (BLM) for silver, which models
the effects of water chemistry on metal toxicity to
aquatic animals.
SETAC is a not-for-profit, worldwide
professional society consisting of individuals and
institutions dedicated to the study, analysis, and
solution of environmental problems; the management
and regulation of natural resources; environmental
education; and research and development. Visit
