Newman selected as SETAC Founders

The Society of Environmental
Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) has awarded Dr. Michael
C. Newman the 2003 Founders Award in recognition of
his exceptional contributions to environmental science.
Newman, a professor of
marine science at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science,
will be presented with the Founders Award during the
opening session of SETAC North America's 24th Annual
Meeting to be held Nov. 9-13, 2003, in Austin, Texas.
This prestigious award is given annually to an individual
with an outstanding career who has made significant
contributions to the environmental sciences consistent
with the goals of SETAC.
Newman was selected to
receive the Founders Award in recognition of his vast
contributions to the development of concepts and high
standards in the field of environmental toxicology.
His research interests include general and applied aquatic
ecology, ecotoxicology, bioaccumulation of contaminants,
factors modifying inorganic contaminant toxicity, fate
of inorganic contaminants in aquatic systems, toxicity
models, ecological risk assessment and water quality.
