2007 SETAC/EA Engineering Jeff Black Award
10/23/2007
The Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry is delighted to announce Laura Dobbins as the recipient of the 2007 SETAC/EA Engineering Jeff Black Award. This award is in recognition of Dobbins’ life in science and her contributions to SETAC.
Dobbins is currently working on her master’s degree at Baylor University with Dr. Bryan Brooks in the Baylor Ecotoxicology and Aquatic Research (BEAR) laboratory. There she has demonstrated exceptional quality and potential as a researcher by largely developing her graduate research project on her own in addition to learning advanced probabilistic risk assessment techniques and applying them to a thoroughly researched data set on estrogenic compounds. Dobbins is initiating studies on the potential estrogenicity of parabens, a class of antimicrobial agents present in thousands of food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic products. Dobbins has authored or co-authored nine professional presentations at state, regional or national professional meetings, which include a platform presentation award at the 2007 South Central SETAC meeting, in Nacogdoches, Texas.
EA Engineering will contribute $1,000 to the 2007 award, which will be matched by the Society. This award is given to a SETAC member who is a student or entering student pursuing a master's degree in a field of study encompassed by the Society.
SETAC is a not-for-profit worldwide professional society of individuals and institutions dedicated to the study, analysis, and solution of environmental problems, the management and regulation of natural resources, environmental education, and research and development. Its membership numbers more than 5000 from 92 countries, and the Society publishes two renowned journals, Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry and Integrated Environmental Assessment and Management. -AED
