Return to Science Grant

New: Return to Science Grant!

SETAC Europe is calling for nominations for the Return To Science Grant.

For the first time this year, the SETAC Europe Return To Science Grant will be awarded to stimulate scientists (men or women) who have somehow experienced a temporary professional break. This could be as a result of illness, family commitments or other reasons beyond their control. Recognizing how difficult it can be under certain circumstances to get started again, this grant is seen as a boost and an encouragement.

The grant representing a value of € 1000,- could take several forms. Examples of what the grant could be dedicated to, include:

  • A free registration or invitation to speak at a SETAC Europe Meeting;
  • Securing research funds by providing small grants (non-staff costs) to pump-prime research projects;
  • Increasing research activity by contributing to 'teaching buyouts' or technical assistance; creating a network under the umbrella of SETAC;
  • Paying directly for child care;
  • Other options proposed by the candidate up to a maximum amount representing the value of the grant.

The applicants should send a written application letter explaining exactly what their situation is, the type of work break they experience(d), their scientific background and how they would like to use the grant. The nature of the situation will be kept confidential. A CV must be included in the application package, including a list of publications.

Grant recipients should be based in a geographical area administered by SETAC Europe (i.e. Europe, Russia, Middle East and Africa).

Applications can be directed to Rebecca Bundschuh in the SETAC Europe Office with a copy to Annegaaike Leopold, Chair of the SETAC Europe awards committee.

The deadline for submissions is 31st of March 2016.

The grant will be presented during the opening ceremony at the SETAC Europe 26th Annual Meeting in Nantes, France in May 2016.
