The Training Course is dedicated to all seeking basic and advanced-level training on bio-tools for the characterization of microbial communities involved in biotechnological processes. This course is beneficial for practicioners, operators and researchers interested in developing or applying molecular biologyrelated and biotechnological methods.

The course will focus on selected aspects of molecular biology that provides principles for understanding the structure and function of mixed microbial communities responsible for bioremediation processes and wastewater treatment. Several molecular biology techniques will be presented and several examples of molecular applications will be highlighted.

 Upon completion of this course, participants will

• have gained an understanding of techniques that are currently being utilized in the biological characterization of contaminated soil and groundwater;

 • be familiar with concepts pertaining to basic molecular biology principles and techniques for understanding various areas of research and their applications.

 The course will be presented by internationally recognized experts in the field and during the laboratory session the course faculty will be assisted by tutors.

Registration Fee Full three-day course (Modules 1&2): 300 € Lectures only (Module 1): 200 € Both modules have 10% reduction for SETAC members Fees include course material, lunches and coffee breaks.

The number of participans is limited to 30 for the lab demonstration part of the course. No restrictions apply to the lecture part (module 1). Requests for participation will be selected according to the date of receipt. Please register before 15 April, 2013 using the registration form attached. Participants will receive an attendance certificate upon course completion.


Module 1 will be taught at the CNR headquarter, Piazza Aldo Moro, 7 - 00185 Rome

The lab demonstration will take place in the premises of the Water Research Institute, IRSA-CNR, Area della Ricerca di Roma RM1- Via Salaria km 29,300 0015 Monterotondo (Rome).
