SNA President’s Blog 20: Electing Your Board of Directors – Vote!
All SNA members received an email last week and it is time to review the candidates’ statements and mark your ballot. The opportunity closes at the end of the month.
Your vote is important.
As far as not-for-profit BOD elections go where somewhere between 13% and 17% of the membership votes, the SNA membership does pretty well with just over 20% of the membership participating. But there is a lot of room for improvement.
So, a couple of things to think about:
- Treasurers and Presidents of SNA are elected from the sitting members of the BOD. The person you vote for may be the future SNA Treasurer or President.
- Treasurers and Presidents of SNA represent you to SETAC World Council.
- Treasurers and Presidents of SETAC World Council are elected from the members of World Council. The person you vote for for SNA BOD may be the future Treasurer or President of SETAC World Council.
- The SNA BOD works on behalf of you, a nearly 3000 person membership, with a budget of under $2 million (per our 2014 Annual Report) and as many volunteer hours as can be found to bring annual meetings, workshops, in person and web-based training, education, student and early career travel and registration support, mentoring, science outreach and education to decision makers, research and publication awards, journals, amazing professional staff, and much more.
So, for the future of your professional society:
Vote! It’s Important.
